When the Food Network’s, “The Best Thing I Ever Ate,” asked that question of celebrity chef Rocco Despirito, his answer was Umberto’s pizza. He called it “indulgent,” “gooey,” and “delicious.” He said pizza was his ultimate final meal. Rocco credits Umberto Corteo to bringing pizza to Long Island. And now, 45 years later, Umberto and his staff, which includes
son, Gaetano and nephew, Vincent, still use the same recipes to make all the varieties of pizza and other favorite Italian dishes.

It’s always exciting at this casual pizzeria. A steady stream of diners enjoy Umberto’s famous pizza which was voted the “Best on Long Island” by various organizations. Our favorite was their legendary Sicilian with robust tomato sauce and homemade mozzarella. A Margherita slice from their brick oven
had a crispy crust with sauce, cheese and basil; every bite a delicious treat.

In addition to the renowned pizza (people come from all over to eat it), the other food at Umberto’s is equally as delicious. Chicken Scarpariello is a succulent dish with pieces of chicken, house made sausage, mushrooms and garlic. Enjoy it with their house made peasant bread and garlic knots.
End with one of their luscious homemade desserts and some dessert wine.

Even though this pizzeria does an active business, you’ll never feel rushed. Friendly servers tend to your every need. Enjoy a slice or a four course dinner with fine wine at the Original Umberto’s, where they do everything right.
